Why are Blacks, Asians and Latinos considered the only 'minorities' for business purposes?

Why are Blacks, Asians and Latinos considered the only 'minorities' for business purposes? (sometimes Native Americans are thrown into the mix as well) I also know women classify as minorities for some business loans, networking things and so on, but why aren't Middle Eastern or Muslims considered a minority? (I know having a religion be a minority is a bit odd)

They often have to endure A LOT of racism and issues when it comes to being hired. My husband is from Turkey so he has an accent, yes, BUT he carries a greencard, is on the path to being a U.S. citizen, speaks English FLUENTLY and has a double-MBA which he earned at an accredited U.S. graduate school.

However, I feel that (not just in our situation) that many individuals as well as employers look at a foreign (especially "Middle Eastern" or "Muslim-looking" name on a resume and throw it in the trash. (I have seen this at several employers I've worked for - many of whom were "minorities" themselves! Why no laws or networks?

Middle-eastern persons are considered "Asians". And the "asian" has been separated into "Asians" and "Pacific Islanders".

Also, Disabled persons are considered a "minority" for business purposes.

National Origin is a protected grouping under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, so if your husband feels he is being discriminated against by companies that won't hire him, she should contact the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

Reply:Because the government only pays attention to the ones who gripe and cry foul the most!! blacks and Latino's have lots of legal groups to take things to the legislators Naacp and other such organizations go to the media and to our government officials with their concerns and gripes and that's why they have so much clout!
Reply:So sorry, You missed a couple of them. Native American Indian, Women,
Reply:You feel? Do you have any proof that employers throw resumes away and that they act rather discriminately about ethnic heritage? If so, then use those very laws that protect minorities and file a lawsuit.

There are plenty of laws nowadays to protect against discrimination. As for what is a "minority," that would encompass every ethnic group that has a smaller population than the dominant group, in this case that would be the white population in the U.S. Seems like your husbands nationality fits very well in the category of minority.

Prejudice is no doubt very much alive and well in this country. Best of luck for your husband on this. Again....dont "feel" about some misjustice.....do something about it if you have proof.
