What type of cocktail to order for a business dinner?

I will be attending a business dinner with my husband tonight, at a ritzy convention center. Before dinner there will be an open bar/cocktail hour.

To be honest, I'm kind of clueless when it comes to ordering cocktails in this environment. My husband likes scotch on the rocks and will probably be ordering it, but I have no idea what I'll have. Normally I'm a margarita kind of gal, but because this will be a professional environment (both of us will be networking %26amp; making business contacts), I'd like to keep my drinks "classy".

Does anyone have some suggestions as to what types of cocktails would be good to order?

Maybe order a house wine...

or a Cosmopolitan (kind of fruity and yet still classy)

Amaretto Sours are really good too.

Reply:If there's an open bar that says to me "drink" not "drink classy." Just drink what you like and keep a lid on it. I honestly see nothing wrong with a margarita, if they put it in to a tumbler who would know the difference?
Reply:Between every business %26amp; formal events I have attended and bartended, there is ALWAYS someone who overdoes the drinking. Make sure it's not you.

I agree with AleSmith...

Go ahead and have your margarita. It's not a trashy drink. When you order, just make sure you say you want it "up" (served in a martini glass) or "on the rocks" (served in a highball or rocks glass) but just don't mention salt. If you're worried about overdoing it, just tell the bartender that you want half the amount of tequila. They will be happy to oblige. Also have a non-alcoholic beverage between each cocktail. You're going to do great! There's no need to sub cocktails.
Reply:A Cosmopolitan is your best bet, but sip it. They go down fairly easy.
Reply:Skipper is not all that wrong BUT boring

today what you are referring to has been dead (classy)

Nobody is really judging you until you fall down..

stop the stress

Knowing what drinks you do well with is paramount...

have a good time

wish you well
Reply:Normally I'd agree with the Martini or Cosmo, but since they're pretty much straight alcohol, they might not be the best choice for a business event. You may want to go with something like a Vodka and soda or a Vodka tonic and that way you're not just consuming pure alcohol. You may choose a citrus vodka like Absolut Citron or Grey Goose Orange if available -- otherwise just ask for a slice of lime for the drink.

Since you do tend to like sweet drinks like Margaritas, you could go with a simple Vodka and cranberry juice. Or a "7 and 7" which is Segrams 7 (Canadian Whisky) with 7up over ice. Other safe but sweet choice are Vanilla Vodka with ginger ale (tastes like cream soda) or even a Cuba Libre which is Rum %26amp; Coke with lime.

Anyway, hope this helps! Just be sure to eat a little before hitting the bar too hard ;-) Have fun.
Reply:You can't go wrong with a martini.
Reply:So long as you're not taking shots and getting ridiculously drunk, whatever you choose to drink will be fine. But if it's really bothering you, have your margarita in a rocks glass, or shaken in a martini glass. You could go with the standard 'girly' drinks which are usually served martini-style: Cosmopolitan, Melon Ball, Kamikaze, Green Apple Martini,or a Chocolate Martini. Take your pick ^.^
