Need some answer to these question please!!!!
What types of business applications would you deem important in a networked business office?
Most business need both 'line of business' applications and general 'office' style applications.
The 'line of business' application may be a database or process application and could be running on a UNIX or IBM midrange server (iseries etc.). Often run under an emulation. A few businesses may trust these to Windows servers, but who has seen an IBM server crash?
Office syle applications are often run under 'MS Terminal Services' on a Windows 2000 or Windows 2003 server. These are usually run under rdp (remote desktop protocol) or ICA (a Citrix protocol). NT4 had a terminal Server edition that uses rdp.
Reply:Microsoft Office or Open Office or Works is needed....You need a word processing, spreadsheet and database apps
I would also invest in the microsoft office Communicator it lets people send instant messages to each other...
other than that is alot of backend stuff that you may have already.....
Windows Server as the domain controller, SQL server for serviing out database information...
Firewall software and probably some sort of email server software.....theres always more you can get but thats all i can think of right now
Reply:word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, accounting software, instant messaging, e-mail, file serving software, backup, remote access software (VPN), project management software, virus protection, spam filters, wiki software, a domain for centrally controlling access to network resources.

Reply:Depends on what they are doing in the office. If it was an accounting office they would want some sort of accounting software like quicken or whatever. They also would want file storage %26amp; access. They probably use MS office products like word, outlook %26amp; excel. they probably use adobe for pdf files opening %26amp; creating. Printer software. Virus protection %26amp; firewall.
Try going over to office max or staples %26amp; look at the business software there. Basically what they have in stock is the most popular used.
