How long until wireless networking becomes the norm for business and LAN cables become a thing of the past?
Never. LAN cables will always be used for business to remain secure. Anything wireless can be hacked.
Reply:Probably quite awhile. It isn't that wireless isn't useful, however, wireless can increase the variables for IT, and can cause a number of security issues and challenges. I would say this, for some businesses, wireless may be not far off as security may not be that big of an issue, but for those businesses where security is paramount, wireless has a ways to go.....

Reply:We are already experiencing the change. Every day more businesses changes their LAN to Wireless Connections instead of using cables. I think that in less than 15 years more than 60% of the businesses are going to be using Wireless. But it is not a safe thing to do unless they fix the problems that Wireless may have to prevent hacking...
Reply:they should NEVER change the hardline option, unless they come out with some kind of ultra secure wireless device that no one can hack......which probably will not happen in our life time. So do not count on anything switching FULLY over during our life!
Reply:I concur with computer doctor, never, because anything wireless can be hacked, if not now, then eventually. In addition to that, wired networks are generally speaking, faster connections, wireless networks will (at least with current technology) be limited in speed due to distance between routers and maximum bandwith supported, etc. If they could perfect it however, having entirely wireless networks would be pretty cool though.
Reply:Not until there is a huge leap in wireless security and/or wireless becomes as fast as LAN transfers. I believe the fastest wireless network is N (108 Mbps?). Wired LAN for go Gbps, so it's a long ways from "a thing of the past"
Reply:This will be reality maybe in several years.. It will catch on feel fast trust me.. With all the new gadgets requiring WiFi to access the internet.. No one will just use a LAN Cable anymore..
Reply:I don't think it will happen. It will never be as fast or as secure as wired networks.
